Hi everyone, I will be buying a new vacuum cleaner soon and would like some recommendations/ testimonials from regular users of vacuums as to which ones you all feel is/are the best. It needs to be one that is good for picking up pet hair, and doing a 3 bedroom house top to bottom, (so will be on for a good while when in use), also the cost needs to be under £200.

I take it if you're going to pay for your vaccuum in Pounds, then you must be posting from England or the UK? I live in the U.S., and I've owned a lot of different brands of vacuums over the years. Kirby, Electrolux, Hoover, can't think of all the brands. They all seem to give only a couple of years of service, and then they fail. And vacuum cleaner repair places are becoming as rare as Hollywood starlets who wear underwear. After my last 2 vacuums failed within a week of each other, I just went out to Walmart and bought a $45 Bissell. It's a cheap vacuum, but it actually cleans quite well. It picks up everything I need it to. And, it can be serviced by the user: there's a filter under the collection canister that clogs up with dust and grime. But you can lift out the filter, wash it out in a sink, and put it back in, and the vacuum has suction like new again. I figure it'll give me several years of service, possibly more. So far it's holding up very nicely. And when it fails for the last time, I'll just pitch it and go buy another just like it. No more expensive vacuums for me.

I really need a cheap vacuum cleaner for an art project exam,
I know they can't sell them in most charity chops, I've heard the council may do some kind of scheme where they take used or old vacuum cleaners and give them to poorer households, I'd like to know more about this.
Or if anyone has a broken or old/used hoover that they'd like to donate I can collect, I live in the Yorkshire area of England and would really br grateful it :]

Hi,I'm not that sure but at my local rubbish depo they sell electricals including vacuum cleaners...I suggest you go to your local depo and ask.If not you could,yes,carry on looking into the council scheme.
