Can anyone tell me which upright vacuum cleaners were rated top 10 in Consumers Report for 2007? Thanks!
Answer
They were just on the Today show this morning touting their CR best buy Kenmore vacuum, but here is the 5/07 list from least repairs to most repairs:
Eureka Smart Vac Ultra 4870 Best Buy
Kirby
Eureka
Bissell
Dirt Devil
Kenmore
Oreck
Panasonic
Hoover
Riccar
Simlicity
Fantom
But, Check out this month's edition because they have a list in there as well.

What is the most powerful canister vacuum on the market today?

i Can anyone give me more suggestions on this question. I have a collie that lives in my house at times, an carpet an vinyl floors in my house. Is there something better than the Miele S5981 Capricorn with SEB-236 Power brush.
Answer
I will second the Miele 7260, however it is an upright and it's a bag vacuum, which IMHO doesn't control carpet and pet odors as well as a good bagless such as a Dyson. I personally prefer an upright to a canister, but the question was for a good canister.
I've used several Miele uprights and canisters, and whether they've got the powered floor head or not, they all seem to have really good suction and filtration. If you've got reduced suction, make sure the bag isn't full or plugged and that the filters are clean. Also, with the power head, make sure the brush isn't impacted with hair, string, and carpet fiber. When this happens, the brush no longer does what it is supposed to and the vacuum won't pick up debris anymore.
If you are looking for a better canister vacuum, check out the Aerus Lux. This is the vacuum that your parents and grand parents had before Eureka bought the USA naming rights to sell their inferior products under.

On the less expensive side of things, consumers seem generally happy with Kenmore products.
