best value vacuum cleaner uk image
Madgie cak
Laundry detergent
Dish soap
School lunches
Any cleaning product-- Swiffer, Windex, Hoover, Mr. Clean, etc...
This goes deeper than just television commercials. The reason why advertisers gear their products towards a certain demographic is because according to research, these are the people buying and using such products. So it is a reflection of society at large--women are responsible for the cleaning and child rearing in the United States, 2012.
Just so you understand where I'm coming from, this in itself does not bother me. I happen to prescribe to the old doctrine of family values and gender roles. However, what DOES bother me is when I see indications elsewhere that women "should" work and earn a living, etc. This is where I get agitated. Why is so much (more) expected of us?
You may argue that feminism is to blame, "you asked for this." But I indeed DID NOT ask for this. Yes, I believe that women should vote and drive and not be hit, etc. Yes I believe that women are capable of having a career, of being doctors, etc. But I don't appreciate the notion that we HAVE to work, but at the same time we also HAVE to have the kids, raise the kids, clean the house, etc all at the same time. Then you men on here will actually call a woman a GOLD DIGGER if she is interested in anything financial. Well, how do you think the world works, fellas? I presume you certainly are interested in her ability to carry children for you... what's the difference?
Below I have compiled a list of youtube links proving that my premise is correct. I have been careful to make sure the commercials are no older than 5 years. I did notice among my research that commercials in the UK are slightly better at showing a man (literally--1 man) with a vacuum in his hand. But again, I'm more worried about my own country.
So why is this folks? And considering this is the case--can you please ease up on the "gold digger" labels. Let's just all accept that this is the way the world (still) is (for now).
Just so my premise cannot be disputed:

Rob: way to only read the question and not the details...
Answer
Because women are usually the main consumers on those types of products so companies will always target their core consumer market. It's all about the dollar.
More is not always expected of women more than men. Both sexes are held to a certain amount of resposibilites due to society's take on gender roles.
For men, we have to the leaders, protector's and providers. We are more required to always work so we can make money and provide. We have to be strong (physically, mentally and emotionally) so we can protect. And we have to be able to be great communicators, be brave and always keep our composure een under the most unnerving circumstances so that we can lead.
Add that to what you mentioned for women we all deal with our own uniqe challenges, its apart of life unfortunately. Nobody said it was easy
