We've had a Dyson bagless vacuum cleaner for a few years, and we are slowly arriving at the conclusion that it's not all it's cracked up to be. It seems a little lame.
Or are we doing something wrong?

The fact that you don't have to buy any vacuum bags sounded intriguing, but I'm allergic to a lot of stuff, so I didn't buy one. You just can't empty those Dysons without being exposed to that dust.
But I read a lot of reviews and tests before buying my recent vacuum cleaner. The general consensus seems to be, that all Dysons aren't exactly first choice regarding performance and durability. Those vac cleaners, which performed best always had conventional bags and electric rotating brushes.
I don't all brands are available in NZ, but I think buying one with those rotating brushes might be the thing. Especially if you have a pet at home, you'll get rid of pet hair really easy.
The vac cleaner I bought 4 years ago is a Siemens brand, I doubt you get one of those in NZ, but I must say, after 4 years of use, it still works well. And it has 13m of cable, that's totally unusual. Complete with these brushes it wasn't cheap, the brush head is optional, but it still was cheaper than most of those Dysons.
Overall you can say Dysons surely aren't the best vacuum cleaners available. According to a lot of internet resources you seem to have to empty them more often than you're used to, because performance seems to worsen dramatically when they're already filled. So you might want to try that first before throwing it out of the house.
