Electrical power and which fuse?

spacechutn

Being asked to work out the current drawn by a 1400W vacuum cleaner and explain the value of fuse you would choose in the plug for it as well.

Answer
I assume you are in the UK because you say "the fuse in the plug". Therefore the mains is 230V.

I = P/V
6A = 1400W / 230V

Allow a bit extra for surges when the motor starts. I would use a 10 Amp fuse. Time Delay or Slow Blow fuses are better for devices with motors, because of the switch on surge. We can ignore power factor because the fuse is already larger than the running current.

Why are Americans so negative about the UK?

josh

The majority off Americans have not been to the UK therefore they have a lack off information. I'm really getting tired off Americans claiming that they know everything about the UK. The UK has had some great people.

These are the things the British invented.

1. Steam engine
2. Electric motor
3. Lawnmower
4. Chocolate bar
5. Telephone
6. Light bulb (also USA did to)
7. Electric vacuum cleaner
8. Television
9. Hover craft
10. Jet engine
11. World Wide Web
12. Wind up radio

So please Americans stop being so bias and bigoted about my country the USA and the UK are just as good as each over

Answer
Not to worry, friend. The vast majority of Americans DO respect, value, and greatly admire the United Kingdom. We share a common form of government, language, ancestry, and dedication to human rights. More than a few Americans possess British blood flowing through their veins. To insult the United Kingdom would be the same as throwing verbal rocks at ourselves, as well. Please, disregard the uninformed comments of people who speak---before they have achieved an education.
